TradingView paper trading vs. Nova: which fits crypto practice?

Nova team · · 3 min read

Paper trading lets you practise with virtual money before you risk real money. TradingView and Nova both offer it, but they are built for different things. We make Nova, so we are not neutral; we only use facts from public pages, with a link and the date we checked them.

TradingView Paper Trading (from its public pages)

From TradingView's help article Paper trading: main functionality (checked on 30 October 2026):

  • Paper Trading is a simulator with virtual money, available to all TradingView users. You activate it from Supercharts via Trade → Paper Trading → Connect.
  • It covers almost every asset class on TradingView: stocks, forex, crypto, futures and more.
  • You place orders from an order ticket, the depth of market or straight on the chart, with stop-loss and take-profit as optional settings.
  • Per TradingView's account currency article, resetting an account deletes its history, orders and open positions.

TradingView's strength is its charts, indicators and Pine Script. Going live there means connecting a separate broker.

Nova's paper mode

From the Nova home page and the terms:

  • Every account starts in paper mode: virtual money on live crypto prices. Results are simulated.
  • The same rules apply in paper and live: a mandatory stop-loss on every order, risk limits that can only be tightened, and a kill switch.
  • When you are ready, you can go live on your own exchange account (KuCoin, Bybit, Bybit EU, Bitget or HTX) with an API key without withdrawal rights. Nova never holds your money.
  • Nova is crypto and spot only, with fewer charting tools than TradingView.
  • Plans: Free (€0, 1 exchange key), Pro (€9.99 per month), Premium (€24.99 per month).

Side by side

  • Markets: TradingView simulates many asset classes. Nova is crypto, spot only.
  • Charts and indicators: TradingView is far richer.
  • Stop-loss: optional in TradingView's order ticket; required on every order in Nova, in paper and live.
  • Step to live: TradingView needs a supported broker. Nova goes live on your own crypto exchange account, with the same risk rules you practised with.

What paper trading cannot tell you

Simulated fills are friendlier than real ones: real orders pay fees, can slip, and you feel real losses differently. Treat paper results as practice, not as a forecast. Read what paper trading can and cannot tell you and what a stop-loss is.

Can you use both?

Yes. Many people chart on TradingView and practise their crypto risk rules elsewhere. Just never let two tools trade the same live balance.
