Bitget trading bot with a stop-loss: your options explained
If you trade on Bitget and want a bot, one question matters more than most: what happens when the price falls hard? A stop-loss decides that in advance. This page explains two ways to run a bot on Bitget with a stop-loss: Bitget's own built-in bots, and Nova, the app we make. We are not neutral, so we only use facts from public pages, with a link and the date we checked them.
Option 1: Bitget's own Spot Grid bot
According to Bitget's support article Spot Grid on Bitget - Website Guide (checked on 28 October 2026):
- You find the bots under Trade → Bots → Spot → Spot grid.
- You set a price range (upper and lower limit) and the number of grids, or let Bitget's AI Spot Grid suggest the parameters.
- Under Advanced settings you can set TP/SL: a take-profit price where the strategy closes, and a stop-loss price where the strategy stops to limit losses.
- There are also options for start and end conditions (price, RSI, Bollinger Bands), slippage, a trailing grid, and whether to sell at termination or keep the coins.
Two details are worth knowing. The stop-loss is optional: according to Bitget's guide on advanced Spot Grid settings, if you set no stop-loss or take-profit, the grid keeps running until you stop it yourself. And if sell at termination is off, the bot stops but your coins stay in your spot wallet, so the stop does not turn them into stablecoins.
Bitget's built-in bots run on your Bitget account. There is no separate app to connect.
Option 2: Nova connected to your Bitget account
Nova is a trading app that connects to your own exchange account. From the Nova home page and the terms:
- Bitget is supported for live spot trading, alongside KuCoin, Bybit, Bybit EU and HTX.
- You connect a Bitget API key without withdrawal rights. Nova never holds your money, and 2FA is mandatory.
- A stop-loss is mandatory. You cannot place an order without one, so you cannot forget it.
- Risk limits sit above every strategy and can only be made stricter, never looser.
- A kill switch stops all new orders with one button (plus a confirmation).
- Every account starts in paper mode: virtual money on live prices. Going live on Bitget is your own choice, at your own risk.
- Plans: Free (€0, 1 exchange key), Pro (€9.99 per month) and Premium (€24.99 per month). Bitget charges its own trading fees.
Side by side
- Stop-loss: optional in Bitget's Spot Grid; required on every order in Nova.
- Setup: Bitget's bots are built in. Nova needs an API key from your Bitget account.
- Bot types: Bitget offers grid bots and other bot types, including futures bots. Nova is spot only and offers fewer strategies.
- Practise first: Nova starts every account in paper mode.
- Stop everything at once: Nova's kill switch stops all new orders. With Bitget's bots you terminate each bot under Running bots.
Where to place the stop-loss
Whichever tool you use, the stop-loss is only useful if it sits in a sensible place:
- Below the point where your idea no longer holds, for a grid often just below the lower limit of your range.
- Not so tight that normal price swings hit it all the time.
- Sized so the loss is acceptable. If the loss at your stop is too large, use a smaller amount instead of a tighter stop. See how to calculate your position size.
A stop-loss is a safety net, not a guarantee. In a fast market, slippage or a price gap can make the loss bigger than planned. Read more in what a stop-loss is and market order vs. limit order.
How to connect Bitget to Nova safely
- Create a free Nova account and practise in paper mode first.
- On Bitget, create an API key with trading rights only. Do not give withdrawal rights.
- Add the key in Nova, set your risk limits and start with a small amount you can afford to lose.
- If you also run Bitget's own bots, make sure they don't trade the same balance as Nova.
Create a free account (paper mode). No card needed.
